Scotch Howard...MANDARA...

And....Here it is..

May I introduce to you....The one and only.....

SCOTCH HOWARD!!!

This album was like a long, psychadelic journey into the inner depths of our imaginations and aspirations. I have always looked at Scotch as somewhat of a taste maker. Producing his debut album was further proof and was some of the most fun I have ever had. period.

I like to think that sometimes when you press record, you capture more then is right in front of you.  In certain situations, it feels like a little extra presence is there when you press playback. Almost like a ghost was in the room coming through a synthesizer or an old guitar amp, or riding on a frequency through a sizzling tube mic. It is the mystery and the addiction of recording music to me. The small miracles and unexplainable vibe that sometimes seems to pop out of nowhere, and all of a sudden it is captured in the form of a song!

Throughout the process of making Mandara, there were many of these moments and small revelations. Different moods which changed like the weather and different songs which told this story. I like to think the story of Scotch Howard is ever-evolving and that this is the first chapter...And it all started in a hot basement in the heart of LA... filled with vintage synths, a makeshift vocal booth, red concrete walls and a surge of kinetic electricity...Check out the story!

Ultra Violet Light Brigade

Here is the first release from U.V.L.B...It has been exciting to see them morph their sound into a fresh direction and I was excited when they asked me to produce their EP. I have never had so much creative freedom with someone I was working with before. They handed me over the raw vocal and acoustic guitar tracks and told me to do whatever I felt with songs adding the MitraMusic sound. (Big shout out to Bear Erickson of  Erickson sound Labs for stellar source tracks and production!) It was refreshing to have an artist instill that much trust in my production and sounds. What an ideal way to work!

What came out of the project is three solid songs which they are giving away as a FREE download. It will be fun to see U.V.L.B. evolve with their music and I have a feeling there will be quite a few more collaborations down the line...

The Quad 8 Analog Mixing Console

There is a new addition at Broken Radio, the Quad Eight...I mixed a friend's EP through this board the other night and was very impressed with the quality and thickness that it added. It definitely has "the sound" of classic analog and I'm looking forward to doing more mixing through it!

Broken Radio

I am very excited to announce that I will be producing and engineering out of the historic Broken Radio Studios in downtown San Francisco. It is one of the best rooms I have ever recorded in and the outboard gear is AMAZING!! (Plus, there is an industrial strength Espresso machine in the Lobby;)

Matt Boudreau, the owner and head engineer, runs a tight ship and I am really stoked to come on board. The first project I will be working on here are the final mixes of the Scotch Howard project at the end of the month. Stay tuned and check out the link to Broken Radio below...
