MitraMusic is the latest musical venture of artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Gabe Lackner.
It reflects the natural evolution that has taken his past productions across a slew of musical genres. He has landed in a place where he is free to join these styles all together in his own organic, soulful way, invoking serious grooves in this new musical undertaking.
Starting out as a sideman in a number of R+B, Blues and Reggae bands, Lackner honed his guitar skills and musicianship. He grew a deep appreciation for tight rhythms and finding the pocket in whatever type of music he was playing. One of these bands, The Cannons, built a strong West Coast following and ended up touring and releasing multiple records. On the second album, he took on the role of producer for the band and started on the path behind the mixing board. The album led to many opportunities and they got to share the stage with such acts as Damian Marley, Steel Pulse and RUN-DMC. The Cannons were also honored as the 2003 INDEPENDENT REGGAE ARTIST OF THE YEAR by the Musician's Resource Group and the album, "Life-Elements-Vision", was met with stellar reviews. As fate would have it, the band decided to split just as things began to take off. Gabe took this as an opportunity to pursue a solo career and focus on his songwriting, arranging and recording skills.
After producing and releasing multiple albums as a singer/songwriter while living in New York City and Santa Barbara, Lackner relocated to San Francisco. His music melds the fast-pace of city life with the laid back nature of his native California. This move is further reflected with the incorporation of electronic and dance music into his signature songwriting resulting in a new project and an entirely diverse direction. With a new love for vintage synths, edgy drums and a faster BPM, Lackner hopes to replicate the soundtrack he hears in his head with MitraMusic and tap into a pulse that we all can move to.
Gabe recently completed the advanced D.S.P. (Digital Sound Producer) course at Pyramind, one of San Francisco's leading production houses. While in the program, he won multiple awards for his productions and had his songs released on a number of compilations through Epiphyte Records. Currently, he is working out of the historic Broken Radio Studios in Downtown San Francisco, producing a variety of artists and planning for the release of a full-length MitraMusic album in '11.
